Macquarie Con students selected for Regional Youth Orchestra NSW

Two talented students from Macquarie Conservatorium are currently in Sydney for an exciting project with leading musicians from the Australian World Orchestra (AWO) and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO).

Cecilia de Sousa Shaw, oboe, and Simon Ramirez, trombone, are representing our Conservatorium at this exciting event.

Thirty-nine young musicians from regional towns across NSW travelled to Sydney on 30 May for five days of rehearsals, tutorials and concerts, as members of Regional Youth Orchestra NSW (RYO).

On Thursday, RYO performs in the Australian World Orchestra’s evening concert at City Recital Hall. After watching AWO perform in the first half, the young musicians will take to the stage to play Hungarian Dance No 6 by Brahms, with AWO musicians playing alongside them.

The regional music students selected for this opportunity range in age from 11 to 20 years. They are members of Regional Youth Orchestra NSW (RYO), an auditioned orchestra of talented young musicians established in 2016 by the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums.
